Scan & Restore Old Photos
Privacy policy
Effective date: 25 October 2026
Scan & Restore Old Photos ("the App", co.uk.zarkon.scanrestore) scans old prints, album pages, negatives and slides with your phone's camera and restores them on your phone. This policy explains what happens to your photos and your data.
1. Summary
The App works on your phone. It does not collect, send or sell personal data. It has no account, no sign in, no analytics, no crash reporting and no internet permission of its own, so it cannot upload your photos.
2. Camera
The camera is used only while the scan screen is open, to show the live view, find the edges of the photo and take the pictures. The pictures are processed on your phone and never leave it unless you choose to share them.
3. Your photos
Scans and the photos you bring in from your gallery are kept in the App's own storage so you can come back to them, with any date, caption or album you add. When you save, a new copy goes to your gallery in the Pictures/Scan & Restore folder; PDF photo books are saved to Download and before and after videos to Movies, each in a Scan & Restore folder. Your originals in the gallery are not changed.
Gallery imports use the Android photo picker, so the App only sees the photos you pick. Sharing uses the Android share sheet and only happens when you tap Share. Deleting a photo in the App removes it from the App's storage; copies already saved to your gallery stay there. Uninstalling the App removes its own storage.
If you use Android's own backup, Android may copy the App's storage and settings to your Google account as part of your phone's backup, as it does for other apps, under Google's privacy policy. The App does not send anything itself.
4. Faces
Some tools find where the faces are in a photo, on your phone: for example to rebuild detail in them, or to leave them alone when removing dust. Face positions are used only for that edit. They are not stored, nobody is identified, and nothing about faces is sent anywhere.
5. AI models
Some restore tools use models that Google Play downloads to your phone the first time you use them, as part of the App. After that they work without a connection. The download is handled by Google Play under its own privacy policy; no photo is involved.
6. Photo details
Saved photos carry the date you gave the photo, and its caption if you added one, in their standard photo details. The App does not record your location.
7. Settings
Your settings are stored on your phone only.
8. Purchases
Scan & Restore Pro is optional. You can buy it once (Lifetime) or as a yearly plan, both through Google Play Billing. Google handles the payment and the yearly renewals under its own privacy policy, and you manage or cancel the yearly plan in Google Play. We never see your card or payment details. The App asks Google Play which of the two your account has, so Pro can come back on a new phone, and keeps a note on your phone that Pro is unlocked, which plan it is and, if you started a free trial on this phone, when the trial ends so it can remind you. It also counts, on your phone, which photos used the free full quality restores. Nothing about your purchase is sent to us.
9. Email
If you email us, for example with Contact support or Report a result, your email app sends what you choose to write and attach. We use it only to reply and delete it when it is no longer needed.
10. Children
Scan & Restore is not aimed at children and collects no data from anyone.
