Pocket Flute

Pocket Flute turns your phone into a six hole tin whistle. Blow gently across the bottom edge of the phone, where the mic is, and cover the holes with your fingers. The sound starts the moment you blow and follows your breath. The fingerings are the real tin whistle ones, and play along mode shows each fingering on the holes and waits for you to play it.

What it does

Questions

Is Pocket Flute free?

Free: the full flute, six starter songs with play along, and the fingering chart. A one-time Pro unlock adds 31 more songs, play in time, your own songs, recording, more sounds and keys, the high octave, half holes, drone and metronome.

How do I blow into it?

Blow gently across the bottom edge of the phone, where the mic is, like blowing over the top of a bottle. If notes start by themselves, lower the breath sensitivity in Settings. Headphones stop the flute sound reaching the mic.

Can I play without the mic?

Yes. Hold the air pad beside the flute. Press higher on it to blow harder.

Will it help me play a real tin whistle?

The fingerings are the real D whistle ones, so they carry straight over. Breath control on a real whistle still takes practice that a phone cannot give you.

Does the app record me?

No. The mic is only used to hear how hard you blow. Pro recordings are made from the flute sound itself and stay on your phone unless you share them.
